The “East County” region is accessible by our State Highway 4 (as well as some very well traveled back roads like Marsh Creek, Vasco, Buchanan, etc). Our local transit, BART, also has a station at Bay Point. For the moment, that is as far as our BART train line goes into our East County though a years long project will eventually bring the train further into East County to aid the overflow of commuters.
East County is made up of a few cities. These cities include Antioch, Brentwood, Oakley, Pittsburg, Bay Point and Discovery Bay. Each community has its own nuances and charm, and in most of these areas you can find some of the most affordable communities in Contra Costa.
Unfortunately cities like Antioch, Brentwood, Pittsburg, Bay Point, Oakley and Discovery Bay were hit hard by the foreclosure wave, and we see many bank owned homes, short sales and homes in distress in these areas. Home values in East County have plummeted. It is an area ripe for a rebirth, though it may take many years to ever realize the gains once seen in these areas.
Planned communities, retirement gated communities and older established neighborhoods punctuate much of Antioch, Pittsburg, Brentwood and Bay Point. Discovery Bay also has planned communities but is also host to some of the most beautiful delta waterfront properties in our area. Discovery Bay also has some lake (man-made) communities and also some more typical planned neighborhood communities.
From under 100,000 to over a million dollars you can find everything from small fixer-uppers, to large estates, horse and ranch property and water front homes.
